The problem

Bedside tables that look heavy in a small room

What it changes for you

A solid block beside the bed can make a small bedroom feel crowded. Here the cream drawer unit is held up in a slim wooden stand, so you see the floor and the wall through it, and the piece looks light even though it gives you two full drawers.

Perfect for…

  • Smaller bedrooms that need a light-looking piece
  • Lovers of mid-century furniture and warm wood
  • Cream, beige and walnut colour schemes
  • Anyone who prefers handle-free fronts
Cradled in warm wood

01

Cradled in warm wood

Four slim walnut-tone legs rise up the sides of the cream body and are joined by side rails, holding the drawers in an open wooden cradle.

The body floats above the floor, so the table looks light and airy even in a small bedroom with little space to spare, and you can see the floor and the skirting board right through the wooden frame.

Two smooth cream drawers

02

Two smooth cream drawers

The drawers have no knobs or bars: a slim recessed groove between them gives your fingers just enough to pull either one open.

Keep the phone charger and glasses in the top drawer and books or a tablet in the lower one, with the top left clear for a lamp, within easy reach of your hand without having to sit up in bed.

Cream and walnut, together

03

Cream and walnut, together

The soft cream body and the warm walnut-tone legs balance each other, a mid-century pairing that also suits a simple modern room.

It sits well with linen bedding, oak floors and beige walls, and looks especially neat as a matching pair either side of the bed, the warm wooden legs picking up the tone of oak or walnut floorboards.
