The walnut-tone top block is the drawer: it opens with a slim finger slot cut along its top front edge, with no knob to break the smooth, rounded front.

It sits on a small recessed plinth, which makes the whole piece look as if it floats slightly above the floor and sits lightly in the room. It also looks lovely from the doorway.
