The problem

Choosing between a drawer and open shelves

What it changes for you

Drawers hide the clutter, shelves keep books and baskets to hand, and most bedside tables only give you one. This bamboo table has both: an open compartment under the top, a single rattan-fronted drawer in the middle and an open shelf at the bottom. The sloping cane side panels make it look light and relaxed.

Perfect for…

  • Natural, boho and coastal bedrooms
  • Readers who want books on show and bits hidden
  • Lovers of rattan and light wood tones
  • Pairs on either side of a double bed
Woven rattan, honey bamboo

01

Woven rattan, honey bamboo

The side panels and the drawer front are woven rattan cane set into a honey-coloured bamboo frame. The open weave lets the light through, so the table never looks heavy in a small room.

It brings a natural texture that sits well with linen bedding, plants and jute rugs. Light wood and cane suit small and sunny rooms alike.

A drawer and two open shelves

02

A drawer and two open shelves

An open compartment under the top holds a clock or a few books, and the middle drawer keeps chargers, glasses and small things out of sight. Each level has a clear purpose.

The bottom shelf takes larger books, a box or a basket, all within reach of the bed. Each drawer and shelf is sized for everyday bedside things.

Sloping sides, steady stance

03

Sloping sides, steady stance

Seen from the side, the panels are deeper at the floor than at the top, which gives the table a stable footing and a distinctive, relaxed outline in the room.

The drawer stands slightly forward of the sloping sides, like a step, so it is easy to find and open in the dark. Two side by side frame a double bed with a calm, natural look.
